Cindy Ross Friedman Responds to Jim Harrison’s Editorial

I must respond to your June 21 NewKamloops editorial entitled, “Mining helps pay the freight at TRU.”

It makes perfect sense for a mining company like New Gold to have a conscience and to directly fund research promising to reclaim mine-ravaged lands. TRU faculty have never expressed any opposition to mining per se, but have highlighted the policies of both the Harper and the B.C. Liberal governments: policies that have gutted environmental assessment provisions and that have failed to provide adequate monitoring and oversight of operating mines.
